While these are times to have fun and enjoy, the days are also eyed by businesses and marketers who run campaigns to maximize their sales.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember39\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">And the next most anticipated event in the shopping calendar?<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"ember40\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>The Black Friday Sale<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p id=\"ember41\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Originating from the United States, this day after Thanksgiving has evolved into a global phenomenon, marked by incredible deals and discounts that shoppers eagerly await.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember42\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Traditionally, Thanksgiving has been a celebration of the blessings of the year, including the harvest. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Families usually unite on this day and celebrate the day with a meal together and then go on a shopping binge .<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"ember43\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>How did Black Friday originate?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p id=\"ember44\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">The roots of &#8220;Black Friday&#8221; are traced back to Philadelphia in the 1960s. Originally, it described the bustling and chaotic pedestrian and vehicular traffic the day after Thanksgiving. Over time, its significance evolved, representing the shift in retailers&#8217; finances from &#8216;in the red&#8217; (signifying losses) to &#8216;in the black&#8217; (representing profits) for the year. As stores commenced early openings and introduced significant discounts, it gained traction, drawing enormous crowds and laying the foundation for this massive consumer event.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"ember45\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>Why is Black Friday considered to be important for the economy?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p id=\"ember46\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Everyone loves a \u2018deal\u2019 \u2013 consumers look forward to shopping on Black Friday as they can sometimes get products at a steal deal. Even if one doesn\u2019t need something, the discounts are so tempting that one ends up spending.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember47\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\"><strong>Black Friday sales work as an indicator of the strength of the economy and the consumers\u2019 spending power<\/strong>. If the expectations are low or the actual sales are below expectations, it\u2019s deemed to be negative for the economy. Hence, the sales numbers are closely looked at by economists. The Black Friday weekend running up to Cyber Monday (the following Monday) <strong>clocked sales of upto <\/strong><a class=\"app-aware-link \" href=\"https:\/\/xsqg-zgph.maillist-manage.net\/click\/16dac28859cfde8d\/16dac28859c96b95\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" data-test-app-aware-link=\"\"><strong>$35.3 Bn in 2022.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"reader-image-block reader-image-block--full-width\">\n<figure class=\"reader-image-block__figure\">\n<div class=\"ivm-image-view-model \">\n<div class=\"ivm-view-attr__img-wrapper display-flex\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"ember49\" class=\"ivm-view-attr__img--centered reader-image-block__img evi-image lazy-image ember-view\" src=\"https:\/\/media.licdn.com\/dms\/image\/D4D12AQGfyG02z_jl_w\/article-inline_image-shrink_1500_2232\/0\/1700910369120?e=1710979200&amp;v=beta&amp;t=XZVxZEUdBOUUqVwfsERPQONrtxrpyXBVn-82Ft8ncNI\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"ember50\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">Despite the US economy not at its strongest with high inflation and high interest rates, this years\u2019 Black Friday is expected to hit record highs. If it indeed meets this expectation, it will be a boost to the overall economy.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"ember51\" class=\"ember-view\">What does it mean for us in India?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"ember52\" class=\"ember-view reader-content-blocks__paragraph\">E-commerce and other big retail outlets have added this date to their marketing lists where you could see them doling out heavy discounts.
